Mjolnir was the most popular amulet worn by the Vikings themselves. Hundreds of examples survive from the archaeological record.
It was worn as a symbol of protection, as the god Thor wields his mighty hammer to protect mankind against the giants.
This particular Mjolnir amulet is embellished with a goat's head on the handle. This is Heidrun, the goat that produces the mead for the fallen warriors that dwell in Valhalla.
All Vikings aspired to reach Valhalla, and the goat represents the reward that comes with living and dying bravely.
On the axe head is a small triquetra symbol, which was associated with natural magic in both the Viking and Celtic worlds.
This is a striking and authentic symbol of protection for any modern Viking.
